Las Vega Shooting

A recent article regarding the Las Vegas shooting, “At a loss on motive, F.B.I. turns to billboards for leads,” by the New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/06/us/las-vegas-shooting.html, claims that the F.B.I. is planning on writing alerting quotes on billboards and sporadically placing them all over Vegas. The F.B.I. hopes that by posting these messages the public will be more opt to come forth with suspicious information they may have witnessed. Terrorist attacks have become habitual and the question to be asking is not how do we stop it, rather than how are we a part of it?
The soul purpose of the billboards is for citizens to speak up. A quotation by the New York Times, “If you know something, say something,” is an example of one of the many billboards that will be posted. The F.B.I. assumes that there is no possible scenario where the gunman, Stephen Paddock, could have gone unnoticed. Someone had to of seen suspicious activity. Aaron Rouse, one of the special agents said that they want to “reach as many people we possibly can” to seek the truth. The only problem is people are afraid to speak up when they see something they believe is wrong.
It is disappointing that the F.B.I. has to rely on billboards to influence the public to come forward with assumed fanatic information. It all boils down to a lack of human responsibility. As adolescents, we are not afraid to speak up when we disagree with something, so why does it change when the situation becomes life threatening? The Merriam Webster dictionary defines terrorism as “the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal.” It is our duty to stand in between these terroristic acts. Choosing to stand by as other Americans fall makes us just as blameworthy as the man pulling the trigger.
I disagree that the F.B.I. has to put in excessive amount of effort for something that we would believe would be a normal American action. As a United States citizen it is our obligation to walk with integrity. It is invisibly written in red, white and blue what is expected of us as citizens of the United States and we will should not have to be reminded by silly words that are posted on billboards.

  1. This topic must have been hard to research and write about, but you did a good job at backing up what the author of this article wrote about. You also had a great use of quotes in your blog! I agree with what you had to say regarding the F.B.I., yet I also think everybody has a different view on gun control, etc.

  2. Good quotes use in your article. I disagree with the F.B.I too, putting amount of effort to believe it was a normal American action and it is not. Us as citizens could not listen to the billboards because everyone has there own viewing on gun control and maybe the rights. Very interesting and good article to get information on the billboards.

  4. I agree also with you, my favorite part in your blog was when you stated what terrorism is and how we need to come together instead of falling apart.
