   First Semester College Experience
College is definitely not what everyone puts it out to be.The freedom I have is amazing, I get to learn what it is like to live without my parents and finally start to grow up. It sounds scary i know, but it is a joy not having someone breathing down your neck twenty four seven. People will tell you over and over again that you will have no free time, you gain the “freshman fifteen”(scary), and that college is overwhelming and stressful. Surprisingly those are not true for me at least. I am only taking twelve credit hours ( four classes) and three of them are non college ready courses, so that may be the reason why I am not going through what most first year college students go through. So far this semester has taught me many things on how to be independent. I have to be responsible for many things like; waking up on time, cooking my own food, washing dishes and occasionally my roommate, doing laundry, cleaning my room, taking out the trash, going to bed on time, not partying too hard, spending my money on what I need and not what I think I need, and just taking care of myself. My grades are not where I want them to be, so I am trying to bring them up last minute which is one of the only overwhelming thing I am doing at the moment.  I wish my grades were a little better, but i still have a little time to make them up ( a week).  Some things that have gone right for me are: going to the gym five times a week with 2 rest days, eating healthier, drinking about four to five bottles of water a day, eating out less, and understanding my priorities. I get all of my homework done and turned in on time even if it is last minute. My exam grades are looking decent so far. I have not and hopefully won't fail one. I study a lot more than I used to in high school. College can be easy if you are responsible. It is all about your mindset. Do not give up! When your professor offers you extra credit i highly recommend doing it. Stay strong. Do not procrastinate, get your work done and turn it in on time and all will be jolly.

  1. This stood out to me because you gave a different perspective in your writing, like how there was different view points and outcomes then most of the blogs, so great job.

  4. College is pretty hard, well for me it is, but like you said its all about your mindset. There are a lot of responsibilities that you have to take care of and I have to agree that was a big change from living with my parents.

  5. i feel that college is a completely different experience no mater how many hours you are taking. just because you are away from home. and if your not its still different because you have more responsibility.

  7. I had to learn the hard way not to procrastinate, sadly. I can agree that going into this semester also taught me about independence. I know you have come a long way and I think that is great! I am also only taking twelve hours, but I think that it was the best decision for myself as well.
